| Experience & Education Required
(any one of the following): |
1. College level courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology.
Associate's Degree or equivalent experience. Active Enrollment in
a Cancer Registry Certification Program, RHIT, or RHIA.
Previous experience in the tumor registry field preferred.
Certified Tumor Registrar preferred but not required.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education

| Job Duties |
1. Identifies all avenues for case identification. Selects cases by
reviewing pathology, hematology, autopsy and cytology reports.
Identifies new cases by reviewing disease index list.
2. Enters new identified cases following tumor registry policies and
procedures manual.
3. Identifies analytic and nonanalytic cases within six months of
diagnosis and collects data as outlined in FORDS manual, current
State Cancer Registry Handbook and any information required by
Cancer Committee Members.
4. Identifies information necessary for completed "follow-up."
Maintains follow-up according to ACOS standards. Demonstrates and
obtains follow-up information via telephone calls, internet, Oasis,
and Siemens to assist in follow-up. Performs data entry of
information obtained in follow-up process.
5. Identifies cases eligible for staging. Places proper staging form
in medical record. Identifies physician responsible for completing
staging form.
6. Maintains documentation to meet ACOS standards.
7. Identifies charts needed for abstracting and requests this from
Health Information Management department.
8. Assists Cancer Registry Manager in taking Cancer Committee meeting
minutes.
9. Reviews other registrar's abstract. Gives and receives
constructive criticism.
10. Attends at least one state, local, regional or national meeting
annually to be in compliance with ACOS.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

-An Associate's Degree with recent college level education in anatomy &
physiology, and medical terminology and must complete an NCRA's Accredit
ed Formal Education Program within two years from employment in order to
be eligible to take the exam for certification.
