Experience & Education Required (any one of the following):

1. High school diploma or equivalent and one to two (1-2) years hospital admitting experience in health care environment is required. Preferred: Two (2) years college and Admitting office experience in physician's office.

Security This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
 Job Duties 1. Registers patients for scheduled admissions and outpatient proce- dures. Performs patient intake and registration activities, such as greeting patients, updating demographics, preparing paperwork, collecting fees, etc. Collects copayment and deductibles due from patients and forwards to cashier. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Ensures confidentiality of patients' records.

2. Triages phone calls, transferring to RN, voicemail, etc. as appropriate. Maintains daily productivity goals and key indicators.

3. Verifies patient has been properly identified to prevent multiple or duplicate medical records and Parkland numbers, attaining 98% accuracy rate. Manages files, coordinates pick-up from departments. Collects from physicians, pulls and replaces charts, and documents medical record requests.

4. Prepares physician patient schedules, documents appointments onto appropriate physician's schedule, writes appointments onto discharge sheets for patients, and coordinates appointments for unit.

5. Balances cash drawer at each day's end. Takes bank deposit to appropriate location each morning.

6. Provides administrative support to department as needed. Schedules meetings, organizes calendars, prepares correspondence, etc. Distributes mail to appropriate parties. Opens mail for unit and takes actions accordingly.

7. Obtains appropriate signatures on admitting consent forms within 24 hours of admission. Initiates advance directive process. Coordinates referrals. Interacts with payors and patients to ensure that referrals requested by physician are arranged and documented.

8. Performs data management activities. Ensures updates in IDX, collects encounter forms, verifies that forms have needed information.

9. Completes monthly reports, such as patient volume report and practice analysis report.

10. Interviews patients and/or their representative to obtain accurate demographic information, including insurance information. Notifies manager concerning admissions that do not meet hospital's criteria.

11. Demonstrates ongoing competency skills, above level problem solving skills and decision-making abilities.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.
