Experience & Education Required (any one of the following):

1. Associates degree, four (4) years general nursing experience, licensure as Registered Nurse by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas, and CPR certification required.

Security This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
 Job Duties 1. Provides patient education, general health information, procedural instructions, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.

2. Obtains medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with departmental guidelines.

3. Prepares equipment and assists physicians during physical exams and medical procedures.

4. Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by physician.

5. Documents patient care interventions and education in medical records.

6. Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care while observing and recording signs, symptoms, and behavior of patients in medical record.

7. Triages patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and documents such as inquiries in patients' medical records.

8. Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment.

9. Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.

10. Participates in evaluating nursing needs of patients; assesses complex problems affecting patients; recommends policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise; provides patient counseling based on specialized and/or advanced knowledge gained through education and experience.

11. Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line computer system or telephone.

12. Provides working supervision to other nursing staff and/or other non-licensed medical or office support personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
