Experience & Education Required (any one of the following):

1. Graduate of NLN approved Nursing program and three (3) years_exp. as Registered Nurse is required._**Current Texas (or BNE Compact State) license; a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA),ACLS Required**. Preferred: Speciality certification.

 Job Duties 1. Provides direct patient care. Handles procedures and tasks specific to unit's patient population. Serves as role model to other staff when providing direct patient care.

2. Supervises and evaluates provision of patient care by other personnel assigned to unit. Makes daily patient rounds. Performs random chart audits. Utilizes opportunities to teach and mentor other nursing personnel.

3. Manages staff to meet established productivity targets. Reviews staffing and nursing assignments and revises to meet specific needs of patient on shift by shift basis. Coordinates staffing. Makes ongoing changes to staffing as determined by fluctuations in census and patient acuity.

4. Demonstrates effective problem solving abilities and participates in identification and resolution of complaints. Reports complaints and intervention to Clinical Nurse Manager. Follows up on staff issues and ensures feedback to staff member. Engages in effective problem solving with other departments as necessary to meet needs of patient population served.

5. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to provide coverage during off shifts wnen staffing crisis or shortage occurs.

6. Provides immediate coaching and counseling of nursing personnel and follows up with accurate reports to Clinical Nurse Manager. Participates in routine and special patient care conferences. Promotes professional growth of nursing personnel. Provides opportunities for active participation in unit based activities, etc.

7. Generates or supervises generation of event reports during assigned duty hours. Investigates facts as able. Facilitates receipt of reports and follows-up by Clinical Nurse Manager. Notifies Nurse Manager or Risk Manager immediately of high risk situations.

8. Provides input and conducts annual performance reviews and orientation evaluation of nursing personnel assigned to unit.

9. Assists with scheduling and daily edits in staffing system. Completes payroll editing.

10. Assumes delegated responsibility for inventory control of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and effective patient care. Facilitate Facilitates return of specialty equipment.

11. Assists with staff meeting, special projects and in development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Participates on hospital work groups as requested.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.
