| Experience & Education Required

1. Successful completion of Licensed Vocational Nurse program from
approved school of nursing, five (5) years experience in clinical
setting,licensure as L.V.N. by Board of Vocational Nurse
Examiners for State of Texas, and a current Basic Life Support
(BLS) certification course accredited by the American Heart

| Job Duties |
1. Administers personal and therapeutic measures to patients as
directed by physicians and/or nurses.
2. Obtains medical history from patients through structured interviews
in accordance with departmental guidelines.
3. Assists in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient
care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and assuring
availability of needed patient information, such as reports of
diagnostic exams and medical records.
4. Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by physician
with exception of intravenous medication.
5. Triages patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or
departmental protocols and documents such inquiries and results in
patients' medical records.
6. Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs using medical
equipment; performs procedures of low complexity such as serial
specimen samples, drawing blood from heparin lock, venipuncture,
and specimen collection and handling.
7. Documents patient care interventions and education in medical
records; ensures appropriate patient consent forms and authoriza-
tions are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
8. Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on-line
computer system or telephone.
9. Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure
patient safety and proper functioning. Completes clinical paperwork
including chart documentation and encounter forms.
10. Maintains adequate stock of supplies on carts and in patient exam
rooms as required. Orders supplies and supplemental nursing
material. Coordinates nursing schedules to maximize patient flow
and physician satisfaction.
11. Maintains current customer service, clinical, and technical skills
by attending training programs and seminars to continue level of
competency and ensure compliance with departmental policies and
procedures. May supervise other vocational nursing staff and/or
other non-licensed medical or office support personnel. Coordinates
assignment of administrative duties.
12. May be responsible for design, execution, and effectiveness of
system of internal controls, which provides reasonable assurance
that Vocational Nurse operations are effective and efficient,
assets are safeguarded, and financial information is reliable;
ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and
procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
