Experience & Education Required (any one of the following):

1. Associates degree in area specific to the position, such as Fire and Occupational Safety, Radiation Safety or Hazardous Materials Management, and two years of directly related experience including one year as Safety Technician II or equivalent.  

Skills And Abilities
Security This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
 Job Duties 1. Inspects areas where hazardous materials are used and stored. Locates areas for posting of hazardous warning signs.

2. Assists in monitoring standard operating procedures for receiving, storing, use and disposal of hazardous materials. Complies with regulatory agencies and national guidelines.

3. Stays abreast of information on regulationas and requirements related to hazardous materials. Performs routine environmental monitoring. Assists in routine in-service training for technical laboratory personnel and support staff.

4. Conducts routine clean-up of hazardous materials(i.e. spills system failures). Adheres to requirements of departmental and institutional Disaster Plan.

5. Responds to emergency situations that involve flammable/explosive materials, fire and smoke reports/alarms, gas leads and odor reports.

6. Inspects and maintains fire protective components such as fire extinguishing systems and fire and smoke detection systems. Inspects and tests emergence showers and eye wash stations.

7. Assists in conducting fire drills.

8. May be on-call after hours to respond to emergency situations.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

 Comments THIS POSITION MAINTAINS THE DOSIMETRY PROGRAM AND DISTRIBUTION/RECEIPT OF PERSONNEL AND AREA MONITORS (IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE REGULATIONS) FOR UT SOUTHWESTERN, CONTRACT HOSPITALS AND CLINICS. MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM BASIC DOSIMETRY CALCULATION, ACCOUNTING AND INVOICING DUTIES. BACKGROUND IN RADIATION SCIENCES IS ESSENTIAL TO COUNSEL PREGNANT WORKERS, RESEARCHERS AND CLINICIANS ON SAFE RADIATION WORK PRACTICES. WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL COMPLIANCE REPORTING AND RECORD KEEPING. DUTIES WILL ALSO INCLUDE SUPPORT OF CLINICAL RESEARCH PROTOCOL REVIEW AND EH&S TRAINING DATABASES, ASSIGNMENT AND RECORD KEEPING. COMPUTER SKILLS ARE ESSENTIAL; EXCEL, ACCESS, WORD, LISN.
