| Job Duties |
1. Maximizes use of automated database systems through on-going
analysis of mainframe, PC, and manual systems; trains users in
use of automated systems; assists in, or designs, database and
related applications; maintains database system and associated
data collection systems.
2. Extracts relevant data from various sources and data enters
information into database.
3. Works with system users to make recommendations, receive feedback,
and test additions and/or enhancements to automated database system
so that systems are updated, tested, developed, and implemented.
4. Administers and investigates database network and systems
administration hardware and software by utilizing proficiencies in
various computer languages to support functions of project or
department.
5. Investigates and recommends efficient, user-friendly database
interface designs for all users by utilizing acquired experience
and knowledge of database systems.
6. Proposes policy for relational databse table design; works in
tandem with scientific/technical community using knowledge of
future trends to produce database that is responsive to user
needs.
7. Installs and maintains related database software and hardware
systems.
8. Makes recommendations for modifications or additions to personal
computer database systems, hardware components, and database
software applications.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

| Comments |
Position is for a current NIH-funded Bioinformatics Resource Centers for
Infectious Diseases (BRC) project that will be undergoing a major
expansion to cover most human pathogenic viruses. The candidate must
have a working knowledge of bioinformatics related to genomics and/or
proteomics data and of public database resources such as NCBI
Entrez/Genbank. Laboratory research experience in virology, immunology
or related disciplines, especially related to NIH-defined Category A-C
viral pathogens is preferred. Relevant bioinformatics training will be
provided. This individual will be a member of the research team
responsible for the development, maintenance and extension of the Virus
Pathogen Database and Analysis Resource BRC.
